The Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program provides three releases per year (January, May, and September). The content of these releases will assist the pharmacist in analyzing the latest evidence-based information and in translating that information into patient care to improve outcomes.
Each PSAP release has continuing education activities that cover the most recent published data (past 3–5 years) on a specific therapeutic area or patient-care problem. This content is provided as an electronic book (interactive PDF) with high-level updates in three formats:
- Traditional review-style chapters
- Interactive cases (a series of webpages, each introduced by a sample case-based question)
- Recorded webcast (PowerPoint presentation; includes PDF of the transcribed narrative)
Pharmacists can use PSAP to develop and assess their knowledge in the science and application of pharmacotherapy. This information can be integrated into structured training programs or assist advanced-level practitioners in maintaining their clinical competence.
The latest release in ACCP’s popular Pharmacotherapy Self-Assessment Program (PSAP) focuses on evidence-based management strategies incorporating new clinical trial data and clinical guideline information for a variety of critical and urgent care themes. The central theme is a focus on patient care elements from the ED to the ICU to the acute care unit. The target audience for PSAP 2020 Book 1 (Critical and Urgent Care) is pharmacotherapy specialists and advanced level clinical pharmacists encountering patients with critical and urgent care needs.
Critical and Urgent Care contains four learning modules with a total available 20.5 continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credits. The book content was developed under the leadership of Faculty Panel Chair Lisa Hall Zimmerman, Pharm.D., FCCM, FCCP, BCPS, BCCCP, BCNSP.
Topics are presented in a variety of learning formats beyond traditional book chapters. The first learning module focuses on patients with stroke and the trauma and neurologic critical care patient population. The second module includes information on thrombosis and heparin management. The third module covers a range of topics including pain, agitation and delirium, smoke inhalation and toxic exposures, and endocrine emergencies. The final module includes three new interactive features: (1) anticoagulation in unique patient populations; (2) anesthesia and mechanical ventilation; and (3) statistics in practice section on comparing three or more groups.
Every PSAP release comes in two full-color online formats: (1) interactive PDFs you can save to your desktop or print; and (2) an e-media version you can view on an e-reader, tablet, iOS or Android smart phone. Chapters in each release are also provided in audio form (MP3 files) as the popular PSAP Audio Companion. A one-color softbound print book is available for an added fee.
